However, let's be honest ladies, taking care of your lingerie is no walk in the park. Although they're not built to last for years and years, a poor wash care routine for your innerwear can reduce their life dramatically. With us spending so much on our lingerie, it is always a plus to make them last longer, whilst retaining their softness, colour, and feel. Here are some tips that'll come in handy to make your life a little bit easier when it comes to caring for your intimate wear!
Washing.
If I had to tell you that one thing to do to extend your lingerie's life, it'd be to hand wash them. It's that simple. Washing machines are often quite harsh and gradually take away the clothes' colour, softness, and shape.
The best thing you can do for your innerwear is to wash them gently with your hands in cold water. If you wish to wash them warm, do so in lukewarm water.
If you're in a pinch and absolutely need to use a washing machine, hook the bras and put them in a lingerie laundry bag before throwing them into the machine. Select the setting for hand wash and do not use the dryer function.
Do not squeeze or twist your lingerie as this can cause wear and tear. Avoid using harsh detergents or bleach as they can cause serious damage.
Drying.
It’s essential to dry out your precious lingerie in the right way. Lay them flat on a surface instead of hanging them on a clothesline or a hanger. This prevents any potential damage to the elastic material and helps retain the shape longer.
Avoid drying out your innerwear in the sun as this can cause the colour to fade away. Keep them in shade. Under any circumstances, do not use an iron on your beautiful lingerie as this can scuff the material and damage its shape.
Storing.
This may seem a bit excessive but bear with us! Storing your intimate wear the right way is extremely important to extend their life.
The ideal way to store your lingerie is to stack them in a drawer. Make sure you clasp the bras beforehand to avoid them tangling with each other.
Using drawers is the ideal way to go because this helps retain shape and colour in the long run. If you can, keep your moulded and non moulded bras separately.
Additionally, keep your daily essentials in the front for easy access and your lingerie for special days in the back to keep them undisturbed. Invest in bra holders, if possible.
Do not fold your bras. Period. It can cause damage to their shape and form. Simply lay them out flat; never ever turn the cups inside out! You can fold your panties, though.
Hanging your lingerie is not recommended as it can stretch out the elastic.
